If iPhone anticipation is threatening to make your tech-loving head explode, chances are there’ll be some audible cranium creaks upon learning that Apple’s latest smartphone is “just weeks away” from launch.
That’s according to a loose-lipped anonymous source from within the Cupertino-based gadget giant, who’s apparently let slip to NYT’s Bits blog that the much talked about next-generation handset (be it iPhone 5 or iPhone 4S or both) will have hit Apple Stores by early October.
Increased rumour traffic regarding the iPhone 5 has picked up alongside the appearance of new Case-Mate iPhone protectors, which, if authentic, indicate the upcoming device will be thinner and wider than its predecessors and will have a tapered aluminium rear casing.
Along with the welcome prospect of increased screen estate (up to a 4.0-inch capacitive display), the iPhone 5 will also supposedly arrive with an 8.0 mega-pixel camera and the same dual-core A5 processor used in the iPad 2.
It’s also worth noting that a recent internal memo from U.S. carrier Sprint has informed employees that no vacations will be approved between Sept. 30 and Oct. 15, which would suggest it’s all hands on deck for an upcoming major launch.
