The smartphone market is becoming more like a battlefield day-by-day. The war between Apple and Samsung is set to climb to a whole new level especially after both the tech giants unveil their flagship devices later this year – iPhone 5 and Galaxy S3.
Here’s a quick look at what iPhone 5 will feature (based on recent rumors/speculations) and whether Galaxy S3 will stand in Apple’s way.
Apple has always been sticking to the same screen – 3.5-inch in iPhone and 9.7-inch in iPad. But now it is time for Apple to add few more millimeters to its upcoming iPhone, dubbed iPhone 5. Possibly Apple will release iPhone 5 featuring a bigger (maybe 4-inch) Retina Display with a resolution of 1280×720 pixels. On the other hand, it is quite certain, after looking at the increasing screen size in Samsung’s Galaxy series, that Galaxy S3 will sport an even bigger screen, possibly 4.6-inch.
With 8-megapixel camera in iPhone 4S, Apple has declared that it thinks seriously about the camera system in smartphones. Galaxy S2 also features an 8-megapixel camera. However, Samsung is expected to bump up the camera specs in Galaxy S3 to 12-megapixel. Will Apple do the same with iPhone 5? Probably not, because it might want to keep its costs down.
MWC 2012 played host to some quad-core devices that were unveiled running on Tegra 3 chipsets. Galaxy S3 will also come out with a quad-core processor. A quad-core 1.5 GHz Exynos processor is being rumored in S3. Apple – not wanting to warm the bench – will also bump up the cores in iPhone 5 to quad-core A6 processor.
Undoubtedly, Galaxy S3 will support external memory cards. Apple iPhone 5 is also rumored to support microSD card for expandable memory options. With a 64GB model and 64GB memory card, Apple can give a whopping 128GB storage option to its iPhone 5 users.
iPhone 5 will be 4G LTE-enabled, thanks to Qualcomm’s new Gobi v5 baseband chip. On the other hand, Samsung has 4G variants of both Galaxy S2 and Galaxy Note, so S3 is also going to be 4G ready.
Conclusion: The expected features of iPhone 5 are impressive, but Galaxy S3 could pose a big threat to the device. With almost similar rumored specs, undoubtedly both the companies are going to land in a dog-fight with their new flagship devices.
