New iPhone reportedly spotted in Apple’s inventory

The long-awaited new iPhone has reportedly popped up in Apple’s inventory with signs indicating that it will be a major upgrade over the current iPhone 4.

As described by 9to5Mac and SlashGear, the phone uncovered in the inventory list is code-named N94, the same name hidden in code for Apple’s iOS earlier this year. That code name was found to point to a device with a dual-core A5 processor, the same chip that’s been expected to appear in the iPhone 5.

Citing information from its anonymous but apparently reliable Mr. X source, who is known for leaking Apple product details, 9to5Mac says the new phone’s model number shows that it could be branded the iPhone 4S rather than the iPhone 5. However, that detail is by no means confirmed.

Whatever it’s called, the phone seen in the inventory is likely to be the beefed-up model that reportedly will come with 1GB of RAM, an 8-megapixel camera, Nuance’s speech-to-text dictation, and the new voice-navigation Assistant. Further information found on the label points to the phone being a dual-mode CDMA and GSM device.

Rumors have run rampant as to whether Apple would release a totally new and beefier iPhone (aka the iPhone 5), a slightly revamped update of the current iPhone 4, or both. We’ll know for sure which rumor proves true when Apple hosts its “Let’s Talk iPhone” event on Tuesday.

This latest discovery follows a report on Wednesday from 9to5Mac that a couple of new iPhone 4 models, likely 8GB versions in black or white, and three new iPod Touch models were also uncovered in Apple’s inventory. Based on new information from its source, the tech news site says that the iPod Touch will see some price drops, with the 8GB version falling as low as $199.
