Since early 2012 speculation has been rife that Apple will release the new iPhone with a redesigned dock, departing from the wide dock they have used on past and current iOS devices. It is expected that the new dock will be a lot smaller than the current 30-pin configuration, including iPhones, iPods and iPads. iLounge has released a report postulating that the new dock connector will only have 8 pins and not sixteen or eighteen pins.
The report continues to say no leaked parts or images of the dock have surfaced as yet, which of course renders the report speculation for the moment.
The new iPhone 5 is anticipated to feature a substantial aesthetic and design refresh and is purportedly quite a bit larger, measuring 58.47 mm wide, 123.83 mm high and 7.6 mm thin with a 4-inch RETINA display.
